Why does playing Houston in Houston get more money than in BR?
The early season neutral site games get attention because they are guaranteed prime TV placement over the holiday weekend that opens the season. Even though LSU and FSU were both just considered up and comers with potential this last season, we still got a Sunday Prime Time spot for going the neutral site route. That game would have been just another one Saturday afternoon or evening if it had been played on campus.
While traditional home or away game between LSU and any other P5 will obviously be a big game and be televised, the neutral site games are locked into the best TV slots Labor Day weekend now. That isn’t going to change. If you want one of those prime TV spots, you play the game.
I prefer home and away games like most of you, but from a business and exposure standpoint, you don’t turn these down. You want to be one of that handful of brand names often featured at the opening of the season.
