You are not burning anywhere near that many calories in the gym.

When I use the treadmill, I usually walk at 3.8 or so mph (at a 2ish incline). It states that burns around 400ish calories an hour. If I go to 3.9 it jumps to over 600. It's just not accurate at all. Same with all the wearable readers.

I saw this British scientist that talked about calories and how far off the listed quantities are now. He stated they allowed a 20-30% liency from what's listed (LINK ). So it really depends on what he is eating and if he is calculating the volumes correctly. It's easy to undercount portions..

There was one study that showed every reader they tested was roughly 30-40% off. Basically just ignore them. Their only relevance is subjective to the individual person. If every workout you normally see it say you burned ~300 calories and then one day it says you burned ~400 then you know you did more. You have ZERO clue what the actual number is…only that you did more than you normally do.

Just eat under your maintenance with consumed calories in whatever form. Consider exercise just a bonus. Exercise is horrible for losing weight on the scale, it is great for overall cardiovascular health.
