I am hoping my bonus cantaloupes will finish growing and ripen.
I felt guilty for neglecting my asparagus bed. So I dumped a load of compost in it several weeks ago. Then I watered it well and put down cypress mulch on top. About a dozen or more cantaloupe plants sprouted from the compost. I thinned to all but three of the best plants.
They are growing like crazy now, and I have several melons growing. The largest is about 4" long and 3" in diameter. I figured the heat would kill them.
