I’m curious if usage increases alot more once power comes back on

What I mean, ok. Power goes out. Gets colder in your house, the minute it comes back and everyone cranks up their heaters to try to get it back to the temp before the outage this increasing energy usage

Correct. In the 2021 hard freeze, the distribution network in Texas couldn’t handle all the heaters (all-electric, no gas) turning on nearly simultaneously and it continually tripped offline.

Yes and no. People do individually start to use more, but while there’s a surge it’s not massive because they aren’t turning everyone back on at the same time.
