Possibly an unpopular opinion here, but I prefer the Foo Fighters to Nirvana.

I feel that Nirvana's music is more in-line with that era in music (Grunge) and while it will always have fans the music didn't really span generations. You either grew up with it and liked it, or didn't and probably don't care about it one way or another. I should also note that you hear more songs today from Pearl Jam's Ten album than you hear from Nirvana (or at least that I've observed).

I think Foo Fighters have a much broader collection of songs, and several have become truly iconic. Plus I'd wager that Foo Fighters have probably inspired more future musicians than Nirvana ever did (though if Nirvana would have evolved if Kurt Cobain had not committed suicide is a potential debate)

Good point.

Perhaps why I'm not crazy about Nirvana is that I didn't grow up in that era (it was a little before my time) nor am I a depressed, angst-ridden teenager.

Cobain's death kind of trapped that band in time and it never had a chance to produce a more mature, evolved style of music.
