Much sympathies if you are getting cluster headaches...
42 yrs old. Started getting them in mid 20's. Worst pain ever...not called the suicide headache for nothing. Would get them seasonally, usually around winter time. Have skipped a year on occasion. Alcohol and nicotine usually triggered the onset. The cycle would usually last a few weeks getting them nightly. The onset of a headache would wake me up in the middle of the night. After immediately taking BC powder, I would pace around the house rubbing my eye for about an hour or so until the monster finally would go away. The headache wouldn't allow me to sit still or lie in bed. In early 2015, neurologist prescribed a steroid pack to break the cycle and it worked within a week. Also prescribe the Imitrex injections. The Imitrex injection worked like a magic eraser on the cluster headache (freaking amazing how fast it worked), but the rebound headache is something to be concerned about. After lots of research, stumbled across posts on an online health forum that made mention of use of melatonin to keep them at bay. Started taking 5 to 10mg of melatonin nightly until flood of 2016 rearranged life habits and got off the melatonin.
Late fall/early winter of 2016, the monster came back and went through another steroid pack and injections to end the cycle. Soon realized the melatonin might have been helping and got back on it. Have been taking melatonin nightly and, knock on wood, have not had a cluster headache since. Scared to go a night without taking melatonin out of fear it will return.
just my $.02. Good luck baw...feel for you.
