You are correct but he didn't even make it seem as if he tried to jump. The defender jumped over his back and the ball was still too high for him to catch. The refs probably thought that the WR had given up on the play because he never attempted to leave his feet.

Again, this is all speculative but that's just my opinion. The defender has a right to make a play on the ball but you can't go through the WR's back. That's why I don't think that was even a discussion.

He never had a chance to jump … the defender came over his back before the ball arrived. That’s how fricking blatant it was.
