I was speaking in terms of overall raw talent. My point was that the '03 defense was dominant week-in and week-out. This year's unit is porous. And I don't think there's that much of a drop-off in raw talent.

As for CB, I think Eugene was like one of the top rated CB's out of HS. Correct? Not sure about Hawkins. On the other hand PP is lights out (do you think he's comparable to Webster/Daniels?).

Try this: imagine the '03 unit being coached by Malleveto and the '08 D being coached by Saban, Muschamp, et al. If the '08 talent had the '03 scheme they too would be dominant.

Peterson is special. He's going to be one of the best cover corners we've had in a LONG time. Also can't wait for Baker to get on the field at linebacker. If we can get a coordinator who knows what they're doing, this defense can easily be one of the best in college football.

I think in raw talent, the 2003 defense was better at this point.

It has better DEs and DLs, especially for that type of 4-3.

The 4-3 we run today is different.
