The 2003 defensive formula

1) Muschamp coaching LB's
2) Saban coaching DB's
3) A special D-Line, with cloggers Williams and Lavalais (flexible hips on such a beast) complimented with Hill and Spear's athleticism

Result: Great tackling techniques and run support, 2 true shutdown corners, great blitz package, pressure on Qb's, etc...

That is THE MODEL for a college defense.

God I miss this combination.

In 2003. This is 2008.

Have you noticed how different the offenses are that LSU is facing in 2008 than the ones it faced in 2003? I agree the basics of the formula you mention are good regardless, but LSU can't play the same style it played in 2003 against these offenses -- not without NFL talent, and maybe not even with NFL talent.
