Is there a trade he is interested in? He could always join the National Guard...
I have a friend whose son wants to be a diesel mechanic. He joined the NG while still in high school and already goes to his required trainings. They are going to train him to be a diesel mechanic and then pay for him to go to trade school after he graduates.

He says military experience makes him more attractive in the job market…I’ll go with that. The romanticized vision of being in the special forces is what he’s seeing more so than learning a trade.
