My gut tells me that someone had serious animosity towards one individual in particular and tried to hide their motive by killing the other roommates. If what was mentioned a few pages back is true about one victim having significantly more stab wounds than others, then I think you have to start there as your true target and see where it leads you.

This makes sense. There was a “ripped from the headlines” Law and Order episode years ago where several people were killed along with the intended victim in an effort to throw off the cops.
