Just bought a house about 3 weeks ago and haven’t had any issues until today with the plumbing. Took a shower and heard the toilet gurgle. Now the toilet is flushing slowly and outside by the septic tank there are air bubbles coming though some water. The septic was pumped before we moved in so it’s not full.

Do I have a clog?

Sounds like a clog in the pump. Same thing happened to me shortly after moving in. Mine turned out to be a piece of pvc pipe that the contractors let go down the pipe when doing work. Lift the septic cover, I bet it’s full.

In my experience, it was some mess causing a blockage at the chlorinator. Pulling that tube up cleared the blockage and it's been fine for 4 years

Update, the pump wasn’t pumping. Probably hasn’t been since we moved in. Flipped the breaker off and then on and it started right up.

You have a lift pump that pumps out gray water? Or are you talking about the little aeration pump? I ask because the aerator won’t have any immediate impact on water backing up issues.

I have a lift pump and an aerator. The aerator was running but the lift pump was not, and they are on the same breaker which was really weird. Pump has worked just fine since I flipped the breaker.

Do you have a float that turns the pump on once the water level gets to a certain height? Usually has a piggy back plug and the pump is plugged into that so the pump isn't constantly running.

Yes, I do. This also has an alarm when the level is high.
