Don't blame Les for Peveto & Mallory?

Is it in the contract LSU has with Les that he has the sole power to select the coaches on his staff, or does his contract say that LSU is the one that has the power to select the coaches on his coaching staff?
I honestly have no idea.
If LSU gave Miles a contract giving him the sole power to select the coaches on his staff, then Les is responsible for Peveto & Mallory. Les would also have been responsible for not bringing the offensive and defensive coordinators he had at Oklahoma State to LSU, instead replacing them with the OC at LSU (Jimbo Fisher) and the DC from Oklahoma (Pelini).
If LSU gave Miles a contract where LSU retained the power to select the coaches on the LSU coaching staff, then Miles would not be in charge of who his coordinators are. That decision would be made by the LSU Board of Supervisors, the LSU Athletic Department (whose is staffed by people chosen by the LSU Board of Supervisors), TAF, and the major powerful LSU boosters that have influence on the LSU Board of Supervisors. If that's the case, then Miles has no final say in who the LSU coordinators are (he'd have input, and they would consider his input, but it wouldn't be his decision to make).
Does anybody know what the terms of the contract between LSU and Les Miles? According to the contract, who is the one given the power to select the LSU assistant coaches? LSU or Les?

Haven't seen his contract, but I'm sure it's Les' call to name his coaching staff...Perhaps the coaches (and their salary/bonus) have to be approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors upon Les' recommendation. If Les didn't get to pick his coaches, who would pick them? Jordy Hultburg?

It depends on the contract LSU has with Les. If the contract gives Les the sole power to select coaches, then Les picks them. If the contract gives LSU the sole power to select coaches, then LSU would pick them. Like you said, "perhaps the coaches have to be approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors upon Les' recommendation." If that's the case, then the LSU Board of Supervisors picks our coaches, not Les. In other words, if you were on the LSU Board of Supevisors, you could force Les to have whatever coordinators you wanted him to have. This may or may not have been how Les had to take Jimbo Fisher and Pelini instead of getting to keep his OC and DC from Oklahoma State when he came to LSU. This may or may have been how Les got stuck with Peveto & Mallory as his co-DCs instead of getting the guy that he wanted. That's why I am asked what terms of the contract are.
Does anybody know?

I haven't seen his contract but I imagine he gets to pick his own coaches but the BOS, Chancellor and A.D. have to approve of their contracts.
However, there has been some talk that he was talked into keeping Jimbo on staff and to not hire Bill Clay. Don't know if that's true.
His OC at Okie State took over as head coach there when Les accepted the LSU job.

I don't know at all, but it's rumored that Jimbo was inherited upon Miles, and that Bill Clay was rejected, upon his initial hire. Gundy then his OC, wouldn't allow Miles to say goodbye to the team.
Jimbo's remarks on Finebaum's Show after leaving for FSU, about LSU should've beaten Auburn by two TDs or more in 2006, suggests a slightly fractious relationship. And Miles is on record as defending so many JV runs inside the tackles into 8-in-a-box that day, suggesting his ownership of the playcalling that day.
However, I do believe it's safe to say that the current staff is all Miles in choice and without financial restraints?

My guess is that LSU retains the right to select LSU coaches, regardless of what Les wants.
My guess is that it is very rare that a university agrees to a contract with a head coach where the head coach has the final say when selecting the other coaches. Why would the school want to give up control like that? The only way the school would give up control like that is:
1) That's how it is everywhere, all schools give up their rights to select coaches to the head coaches, the head coaches have them by the balls when it comes to selecting other coaches.
2) The school is desperate, like Alabama when they hired Saban (I know Saban has sole power to select his own coaches, and it's such a big deal that Forbes used this as one of the reason why they called him the most powerful coach in the nation).
