I thought initially that was a little too micromanagy for my tastes.

HOWEVER...
A) He's the coach, that's his job
B) JD had taken recent hits and might have been a little bell rung.
C) It's a way to make sure all, not just JD, are on the same page.
D) It didn't negatively affect a damn thing so why not.
