I agree somewhat with you, the mob storyline would have been over the top and too much, just not necessary. I like what they did with this origin story, it's much more simpler and believable to me. To me it makes sense that Banner creates a device to make himself human again after being stuck in Dr Hulk or Professor Hulk form for so long. He would want to be human again to hangout with his family (namely cousin Jen) and not hurt anybody as the Hulk. But it happens anyways because of the car accident and his gamma blood transforming her. I just don't like the direction they're going with Emil Blonsky/Abomination character, but we'll see where it goes or what happens.
