Dash Riprock sang My Neighborhood is a DMZ.
Dash Rip Rock even had an album called "Tiger Town," which of course is what everyone used to call the "Northgate" area back in the old days.
They probably wrote "My Neighborhood Is A DMZ" given the names of some of the establishments in the area. Around that time there was an apartment complex on West Chimes Street built with some questionable building materials (wooden 2x4s adorned the outside of the building) that had the misfortune of being formally named "The Ghetto." I never knew anyone who lived there, so I can't attest to what kind of amenities that apartments with a name like that had inside. There was also The Casbah almost directly behind it (must have served Mediterranean food). A few years after that there was a restaurant called Chinese Bandits closer to where Highland Coffees is.
