There is no rationale that can explain the election as being 'legitimate' other than mental incapacity of the American voting populace.

The ONLY answer yielding 'legal election' answer has to give the conclusion that the 'media was a legitimate propaganda tool' which can be used without interference from the FEC. That is the only world in which this election was "legitimate" - it certainly was not "fair" nor was it "secure" nor was it "logical" - nor was it "probable" - nor was it 'deserved."

By any mentality, it was an aberration - and if the roles were reversed, it would not have lasted one second and literally hundreds of people would be lingering in prison at the moment, and thousands would be out of a job and millions would be disgraced.
