I think their 2019 team was more talented

Yes and no. The offense certainly had more weapons on it as you had Tua Tagovailoa under center, Najee Harris starting at RB, and the four-headed monster of Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, and Waddle lining up out wide. However, the defense was nowhere near as good in 2019 as it was in 2020. A lot of that had to do with injuries but there also was a lack of chemistry - especially in the backfield.

That goes to my point, it wasn't the peak of Alabama under Saban because it didn't have the combination of elite talent across the board with excellence on the field AND it happened in a Covid year with half-empty stadiums. (I still think if the 2020 LSU team played in a regular season like last year when the 2021 team almost won in Tuscaloosa, that game might have been more competitive but that's beside the point). The 2020 Alabama team was more like the 2018 Villanova basketball team, not overwhelming talent across the board certainly offensively but every player played their role to perfection and they dismantled teams generally. I'm sticking with that narrative.
