That is a 25%K rate which is improvement over his fall/spring scrimmage K rate of 32% and his 22 season K rate of 36%. So that is actually a very encouraging stat.

It’s certainly encouraging—and I want to again make it clear that I think he’s gonna wind up being really good. But it’s still too high of a rate for a guy who’s not slugging at a higher clip yet. But I think that will come.

As far as his defense I think you and quite a few other posters give him a bad reputation defensively because of the regional. I can recall quite a few nice plays he made chasing down a ball toward the line that few people would have gotten to. I think he just wasn't used to judging those liners in LF being he played CF his whole life. He also seemed scared to take a chance at making a play and the ball getting past him.

I don’t think he’s a bad defender, and I haven’t based my opinion on those particular plays necessarily. I just think people subconsciously overrate him—or what he can be—because of his last name. He is not nearly as fast as Andrew and doesn’t seem to have his instincts. But that doesn’t mean he’s bad or even average. He’s just not as good as a guy he’s naturally compared to who is an all-time LSU defensive OF.

All that said I agree with what you said about him being a starter next season. He will definitely be in the mix and get some playing time, but I think they have other options that will likely have him fall back as far as getting a starting spot everyday come SEC play.

That’s what I see happening. Who knows, he may surprise us and develop faster than I think. He’ll be a very nice player next year and be a significant contributor in whatever role he finds himself in. But I think the big jump will be from his SO to JR seasons where I think he’ll have developed into a high OBP guy who hits 10+ home runs.
