it was Fords acknowledgment of the mythos of the old West that the stories he was famous for telling weren't history but the tales that we tell ourselves.
But also that the heroes we create are still heroes and we need heros

I haven't seen the entire series but I can remember watching the Five Came Back series on Netflix awhile back and being really glad to see that directors like Spielberg and Scorsese hold him in such high regard.

Tarantino has made several comments over the years (80s was the most repressive decade for films...wtf?) that sound pretty ridiculous. Add this one to the list. If Ford made Kung Fu flicks, he'd probably be his biggest fan.
