He said:

I’m renting while I’m gone, they review addresses to ensure the person currently occupying the home matches the name with the parish tax assessor

I interpreted that to mean that the name of the person currently occupying the home does not match his name, registered as the owner of the home. If that's what he meant, then yes that makes as he is currently using the property for income, not as his homestead residence.

It’s for sure not my homestead residence anymore. It’s a nice home a mile from my childhood home where my parents still live and a mile in the other direction from my sister.

I guess by virtue of being active duty I’m not entitled to a “homestead” in Louisiana. I mean it’s not like I chose to leave the state, I was ordered. I bought a home that I lived in and planned to return to…. But that’s fine. I’ll pass the cost on to renters, but it’s just another reason not to return to Louisiana.
