Rewatching the Malice in the Palace documentary on Netflix

What the hell was Donnie Walsh thinking getting Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest on the same team? I understand you want to get younger to win a championship with Reggie Miller but you picked those two characters to be on the same team together, I don’t get it.

Honestly, I had a little more Grace for Artest after watching that documentary.

If Jamaal Tinsley would have never told Artest to get his foul at the end of the game, the brawl never happens. Jermaine O’Neal is the guy I felt sorry for.

I’m not into baseball like that

How ironic is it that Artest and Jackson who both ran into the stands won championships.

I haven’t seen the documentary, but I remember most of the events. That fan that wandered onto the court is lucky O’Neal slipped when throwing that punch. That dude had no business being on the floor.

Ben Wallace was so dramatic. It wasn’t one thing. So many factors happened so fast. Both teams was good and it involved a team with Artest who had a reputation with the refs and the league. The Pistons was about to lose. Was a crazy night.

That fan was interviewed in the documentary and he took no responsibility blaming it on the players lol. Typical Detroit fan
It was weird seeing all the media calling the players thugs and not putting any blame on the fans back in 2004. If that happened today, the media would flip flop on that.

Don’t throw a beer at a guy that’s 6’7, 235 and a world class athlete if you aren’t ready for a physical confrontation with said person.

We weren’t talking about the original cup thrower. We were talking about the guy who ran on the floor looking ready to fight right in front of the Pacers bench.

The OP said nothing about that. You don’t get to decide “what we’re talking about”

If Artest doesn’t lay down on the scorers table like he owned the place, nothing would have happened.

There was nothing wrong with it.
Fights are exciting and should be encouraged more.

Look at all the progress we’ve made

Even back then I sided with the players. From what I remember, the first instinct from announcers was to blame the fans. It seemed like everyone was on board the fans were to blame.
By the time SportsCenter came on, the narrative had flipped and Artest was the villain. It pissed me off. SportsCenter literally created the narrative of the Pacers players being to blame.

Artest is at best third on the list of who was to blame behind Ben Wallace and Detroit fans. Artest walked away to let everything cool down. Wallace was losing his shite, the fans got amped up, the rest is history.
