I’m fine with overturning gay marriage as long as straight people are willing to recodify the tax and estate codes to remove all benefits for married couples and tax credits for couples with children.
Equality is equality. We should be taxed as individuals. Your tax burden should be the same whether you have a child or not. Whether you are married or not.
No more automatic passing down of wealth and property without proper legal incorporation and a legitimate last will and testament.
It is none of the government’s business what two consenting adults try to do.
We are not a theocracy. Christian arguments in favor of 2 person heterosexual marriage can be argued in appropriate public forums. But many of these same Christians who make these arguments revere many Biblical figures who had polygamous marriages and extramarital affairs: Abraham, David, Solomon.
Said argumentation also ignores that Jesus himself did not marry; therefore, to follow his example directly in ministry would require staying single. The Protestant church abandoned this practice starting with the Reformation. And Paul advocates in 1 Corinthians that it is better to remain single than marry; that marriage exists as a vehicle to curb sexual appetite if it cannot be managed/overcome.
