Can I just replace it with a sump pump?

What is the application, i.e., what are you using the effluent pump for?
For example, I have a couple permanent submersible sump pumps I use for backyard lawn drainage. I initially installed regular sump pumps but they would continually get clogged up with lawn debris.
So I replaced them with effluent sump pumps that handle much larger solids, up to 2 inches in size if I recall correctly, and I haven’t had an clogging issue since.
So unless you dealing with relatively clean water with only small solids present, you better stick with an effluent pump.
