Mercury Electronic Kill Switch - "1st Mate System

Has anybody bought one of the "new" (new to me) Mercury 1st Mate kill switch systems ?
I had one installed this week and have a battery issue. The "fob" you wear (If you land in the water the fob sends a signal to the onboard "hub" telling it to kill the engine) is eating batteries like the proverbial MF'er. Is this normal ?
Before you ask - yes, I have a conventional kill switch with a lanyard. With this new system, the existing kill switch still works - the 1st Mate is redundant or a back-up (in case you forget to hook your old kill switch to your life jacket). The system also calls the people that you have entered on a notification list, telling them where you are located if you fall overboard.
Anyway -- it's the battery consumption (CR2430) that I'm asking about.

I had a fob once that was eating batteries and I changed battery brands and the problem stopped. Try a higher cost battery and see if that helps.

Using "Energizer" batteries. Is there a brand you found that holds up better ?

Try the Ranata brand battery. If your problem continues it’s not the battery.

The fob's batteries have an estimated life of 100 hours before they are likely to need changing.

I fiddled with it yesterday using the app. Every time I changed pages on the app, when I checked the battery strength it was slightly higher. Started around 5%, then 15, then 17 , the 24, etc. until it went to 100%. Almost like there's a capacitor in the circuit and you're charging it.
Really weird - but seems to be OK now.
