I’ve only followed the high/low points of this trial, but the way the verdict form read, the two million is against Depp for the defamatory statement made by Depps agent/lawyer.

I suspect at some point the judge ruled that the statements were made in the course and scope of his representation of Depp and Depp was responsible as the principal for the actions of his agent.
