There seem to be two black Americas, just like the white folks. I have a hard time associating all black folks with the pathology of the inner city.

Thats why the term "black community" causes me to bristle a bit. Its used for political purposes, but they aren't all of the same mind.

To me, the best example of a welfare trap is the inner city and Appalachia. Classic welfare traps

that's true. the problem is the black people who have done the right things to succeed pander to the other group for fear of being ostracized and rendered a coon or uncle tom, etc.

yeah, there is no "black community" outside of the minds of people who think there is, which encompasses more people than it doesn't. i'm not even sure what makes one part of the "black community."
