A few years ago, mine quit chiming, but the button was still lit up. Like you, I couldnt figure out how to cut off the power to it. It didn’t matter. I changed the button without even feeling a tingle. It’s low voltage.

A doorbell transformer is plugged into a socket way up in the ceiling of one of my closet.They Like to hide those things in out of the way places. Just installed a ring doorbell and didn't kill the power
