re: Need help replacing a doorbell. Can’t seem to shut the power off.

Literally just did mine on Saturday.
Had the opposite issue, 22 years of exposure had gotten into the button interior and wires and connections had weathered/rusted.
Removed the old one, cleaned the copper wires leads with sandpaper, installed new doorbell button ($8 from Lowes)-- all good now.
And previous posters are right, it's a direct low voltage feed (and constant lead, thus the light is always on) you can mess with directly.
