I am headed to Houston in a couple of weeks and hope to get in two rounds. I’ve never been there to golf so have no idea of which courses to book.
Preferably I would like one round to be at a better course w nice greens and the second course could be a less challenging one since I will be playing w someone that doesn’t play often.
Price point for weekend I’m willing to pay $75-$200 depending on whether course is excellent.
Thanks!

Cypresswood Tradition is a good track and probably my favorite in Houston based on layout and value. Wildcat is usually nice. I like the Lakes course over the Highlands. Blackhorse is pricey but both courses are good layouts.
Can't speak about conditions currently. I haven't played in awhile.
ETA, where are you staying? Houston is very spread out and there are good courses all over the area.

If you are near the center of town Wildcat and Gus Wortham.
Golf Now Houston offers some good deals.

Looks like I will be South of the sam Houston tollway, west of I 45, north of I 10 and east of 290.
So sort of on the north west side of town but not too far from downtown? I guess its not too far from Spring Valley and Jersey Village.
Does that help?
Thanks!

I suggest Blackhorse North & South courses. Great layouts.
Then maybe Cypress Lakes or Houston National.

These courses will be closest to you. I still also recommend Cypresswood Tradition if you don't mind driving 30 minutes or so.
Another good layout nearby is Windrose. A decent enough test for a reasonable price and the conditions are usually decent at least.

Jersey meadow isn’t a bad value but nothing special

Ok thanks everyone for the recs. I will check them out. Of those courses listed, which ones would be the most scenic or have any elevation changes? I would assume courses there are flat, is that so?
Looks like the Blackhorse and Cypresswood courses are solid. Which of the Blackhorse is better or are they pretty equal?

Houston and elevation? Now you are reaching. Kidding aside, The Tradition has some up and down for Houston. Wildcat has the most I can recall because it was literally built atop a dump. The club and courses are nice though. When I think of scenery, I think no houses. Blackhorse has many cool holes with nothing around. As I said earlier, it will be on the pricey side.

wildcat is the only real elevation change unless you want to drive up to magnolia or Conroe to play

I agree. High Meadow is a nice course and has some elevation changes in Magnolia. Not a far drive for the OP.

I prefer traditions to black horse, mainly cause I score better at cypresswood but black horse tends to be in better shape and is closer to OP.

While we are at it-
Any good food recs while in town? Looking for good steakhouse, seafood, possibly sushi. Or any place not to be missed?

I prefer The Tradition as well. It suits my game better. More traditional with wider fairways to absorb my wayward tee shots better.

Most of the good places will be back in the city. Check out the food board for better Rec’s than what I can give you. Georgia James was excellent for steak but I’m not sure if it is still operating. Google Chris Shepard for his great restaurants. Hugo’s is great for Real Mexican and he has multiple restaurants that are all top notch. El Tiempo for great Tex Mex.

Goode Company Seafood.
Brennans Steakhouse
El Tiempo Tex Mex
Orleans Cajun Kitchen is great for fast casual.
If you play Blackhorse Floyd's Seafood is close by and has a great blonde bartender.

Golf club of Houston is supreme. Blackhorse was in terrible shape a couple months ago

The south course is more scenic but harder than the north imo

Jersey Meadow would also qualify as well. Cheap place to throw down some beers if conditions are not a concern.
