I'm taking my 10 yr old son to this weekend's game and we'll be surrounded by South Carolina fans in Sec 506. I know that this experience will help build his character, but it may be brutal since we'll be sporting Purple & Gold.

Anyone got any words of wisdom on how to deal with the inevitable USC A-hole fans who may get hostile as we whip their arses?

Just bring up the subject of conference championships ... or for that matter, division championships ... or for that matter, division co-championships.

Do yourself a favor and have your son wear neutral colors, at least he won't get his rear end kicked.

My experience there in 2003 was very pleasant and was surrounded by USC fans. Maybe they are different now with Spurrier there, but I found all fans pretty friendly. They actually loaned us some supplies for our tailgate that we forgot.

I think your 10-year old has just as much to worry about in Tiger Stadium with regards to vulgarity.

the people are OK,...specially if you ARE NOT in/by the student section. I lived there and everyone knew me and LSU..never had any problems..except with the GO Cocks chant.

I know what you mean. Tiger Stadium just doesn't have the same level of vulgarity it had in the 80's. It's much less colorful than it used to be.

Ain't this the truth! I took my son to his first game in Tiger Stadium when he was 7 and it was pretty brutal. Some lit-up Coon arse couldn't let go of the F-bombs criticizing our team, etc. It was not what I had hoped for my son's 1st Tiger stadium experience, but it worked I guess.

Tell him to do what I did when I was 6 years old when my parents took me to Auburn(1996 barn burner game) Wear LSU attire, and be as loud and obnoxious as humanly possible. We got a bunch of nasty looks and comments, but it was so worth it.

Before the game I also took a picture with that dumb bird they have, talk about rude comments.

I think that pretty much describes me at Bryant-Denny Stadium in 1997. I was all drunk in a purple sweater just yelling "Geaux Tigers" in the 4th quarter as LSU cruised to a 27-0 victory, and all the Bama students in our section just stayed a good 15 feet away from me. It was hilarious, and definitely worth it.

keep in mind that SC is basically an ACC school so you probably won't have too much trouble from their fans.

OK, so I embelish. I'm not travelling to this game expecting to lose. A hard fought game it may be but the Tigers come out with the "W"

Just tell him to yell "COCKS" at the top of his lungs during the GAME-COCKS cheer.

Seriously, though, what row are you in? I have season tickets in that section on Row 23. It's pretty much Gamecock fans up to about Row 35. Above that, it will be all LSU.

You and our son are very unlikely to have any problems. These are all season ticket holders with very few students and drunken idiots. I've never seen anyone misbehave in that section. Really, the only time I've ever seen any trouble is when Georgia and Tennessee come -- and even then not much. Their fans don't quite consider us rivals (because our records against them is not good), but we are in the same division and they can be obnoxious about beating us. The LSU crowd in 2003 was loud and enthusiastic, but also polite and friendly, so they got a good reception from our fans.

Incidentally, be aware that it takes while to get up to that section and pedestrian access to the stadium is not that great. You should try to get into your seat at least 20 minutes before gametime because the USC pre-game is worth watching. Our band sucks, especially compared to LSU's band, but the whole 2001 thing with Cocky and the fireworks is worth watching.

You should be fine. My son and I are going and we are in the middle of USC fans and wearing the colors. Same deal last week with the butt whipping. I always find that if you get into the stadium early and have them file in and sit around you after you are settled, you can talk to them, joke about the game, etc. It really diffuses those immediately around you. Last week, I actually had a good time talking with all the UF fans around me in Section 12. They were just as shocked as we were at the outcome.
