Doesn’t it really depend on the quality of the draft versus what the team believes next years draft will be when it comes to addressing known needs? Seems like it’s hard to make a blanket statement about overpaying through draft compensation. They may have a player trade in their back pocket to recover picks as well, plus any compensatory selections they may have earned. Lots of way to manipulate draft currency.
