With the 3-3-5.. you basically have 3 sometimes 4 safeties on the field.

Your slot corner is a safety. And your third linebacker is a hybrid type.

Daughtery and Yaites both have maneuverability. I could honestly see LSU recruiting 4/5 safeties every year.

A broad definition of a Safety used to mean a bigger, slower CB, or someone too small to play LB.

As defenses have evolved to combat the new era offenses, versatile Safeties has become a vital component of designing a defense.

Coaches want more players on the field that possess speed and coverage skills without sacrificing too much in other areas. Safeties fit that need, and you need different types of players and skill sets to meet your needs.

I also expect an uptick in the number of safeties being recruited going forward.
