Bicyclist passes 10 cars waiting at a red light. Light turns green. That cyclist is now getting passed up (again) by those 10 cars.

Instead of having 1 interaction with each vehicle, being the vehicles original pass, they now increase their interaction count to 3. The original pass. The red light. Then being passed again.

How is this getting away from the vehicles?

Because when the bicyclist runs the red light, there's at least the amount of time it takes for those cars to catch up to them that they're not surrounded by cars. It also makes a difference whether you're just stopped among a bunch of idling ICEs and whether you're actually moving and getting some relatively fresh air.

It makes far more sense, safety wise, for the cyclist to wait in line

I may be alone here, but I'm rarely out in the middle of the lane. I'm usually off to the side on the shoulder.

Bragging about the rate that cyclist break traffic laws

I'm not really bragging, but I can see how you would see it that way as you're frustrated that a guy on a bike is basically making the same time you are in a car.

Back when I lived in New Orleans and rode my bike from the River Bend to Common St., I would fly past the traffic on St. Charles and make better time. Unfortunately there was that one time the little old lady opened the door of her parked car right in front of me. The effect was to bounce me off the inside of her door, and make me face plant right in her lap. I'm not sure who was more surprised, her or me. But no harm done, we both had a nervous chuckle over it and went on our ways.

But yeah, I drive a truck, ride a motorcycle, ride a bike and frequently walk. I fricking hate everybody.
