Well the percentage of high school athletes who make D1 are slim enough as it is. Then the percentage who can make the NFL is even slimmer.
Therefore in all honesty, while I’d encourage my theoretical son in my position to take a scholarship spot over trying to walk-on at a P5, from that option, I’d pick from the ones offering scholarships, the best gives me a chance to have a degree that helps get job interviews, and maybe combine with one that would help display talent if you truly think he can be one of those “overlooked” by the P5s who is still good enough to get paid in the NFL.
