Corso was dead right about our defense

Pelini was a farce. His success was largely based on success against run-mostly or slow defenses (OSU), where the DLINE was relevant and the pass coverage schemes did not require disciplined pass coverage from the LB and nickel/dime defensive members.
Mallory and Paveto seem to be even less talented than Pelini, as they have inherented the same inadequate schemes and approaches .
Last night was not an exception, it was a validation of this fact.
Miles made a fatal mistake in promoting these inadequate coaches.
This feeling was with me far before last night, but sitting in that stadium far atop and watching it unfold was nothing more than depressing validation of what we have all seen, and what Corso has been saying for quite some time.
Out LB's and nickel/dime covetage inability will reduce us to a competitor versus a contendor.
If they dig themselves into this continued inadequacy and talk this off as "just a bad night, we are in for bad things.
Corso was right last year.. our defense is not what it is made out to be..our DLINE is irrelevant if the pass coverage schemes are pathetic, and last night was the perfect example of how to make our strength irrelvant and to exploit the Mallory-Paveto inadequacy.
Miles made a fatal error in promoting these 2 clowns

I fear you are right. I think Peveto and Mallory are good position coaches but neither of them are d-coordinator caliber. We need a tried and proven defensive coordinator who likes to bring the pain.

I would say our Defense wasn't very solid vs. a running Arkansas team last year either. I agree that our CB's seem to be the only ones who can cover other teams receivers. Even last year Ali and Stelz couldn't cover even a TE one on one.
Besides that, you are jumping the gun here a little.Maybe you will be right, I'm not jumping ship after one blow out.

He beat Florida in 2005 & 2007.

Folks, our D is not up to par...not being negative, being factual.
Look at the points we have allowed and from whom,
then look at the points the same teams have allow lesser schools.
Two coaches not "1" Philosophy make.
as I said in another post, anything with 2 heads is a freak....you do not see 2 CEOs, or 2 Comptrollers or ?????
I am not saying that the sky is falling, but you can not fix what you do not acknowledge.

quote:Damn right! Miami gave us a good blue print on Florida and that is to bring it every down. Blitzing Tebow no matter run or throw is the way to disrupt and beat Florida. Miami just didn't have the offense or the horses to maintain.

I am not being negative, but realistic! We are in for a long depressing 7 game stretch if our two-headed snake can't shore this up. We can no longer expect our D to keep us in games and a game-managing QB who so many thought would be suffice for us this year, apparently will not!

This shellacking was totally uncalled for I don't care who was coaching or who was playing for Florida. The CoDC's need to go. Miles made the decision. If he doesn't make the move, HE needs to go.

Don't know if you guys saw this earlier but this is a good breakdown from a poster on another board and it really sums up our defense right now.
Good Post Concerning Our Defensive Problems (Posted on 10/12 at 7:58 a.m.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From another board:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have had problems with our D since pelini was around. Dug up some interesting numbers.
Since the Va Tech game last year (i took out the rent a wins like Tulane and Tech, N. Tx.) We are averaging giving up Just over 29 pts/game. Which would rank us around 90th in scoring D. Right in there with Baylor, La. Monroe, New Mexico state.
Also since that time we have recorded 24 sacks average 0f 2 per game in the 12 games. Which would rank us around 46th, with ULL, Cincy, Minnesota. Be aware that sack number is inflated thanks to 5 sacks in the BCS game and 7 against AL., so take those two games out and we are averaging, 1.2 per game and that gets us a spot at about 93 rd in the nation.
So I ask myself and the board. Players?? Supposedly we have an all world D line, and athletes that can run with anybody.....fast defense. Scheme/coaches???? duh kinda obvious this is the answer. So Bo leaves his Genius schemes here for our Co coordinators, and we are doing abou the same as when Bo was here. DUHHHHH Les FIX IT. Crowton cant outscore everybody all the time.
This really breaks my heart to see this happen, and we dodged a lot of bullets along the way. But damn this was a 50 (51) caliber shell fired into the heart of the D.
I guess the thing I have been most concerned with for some time is not getting pressure on the QB. A guy like TeBlow, will complete passes if not pressured. Some of the completions tonight that got us were not quick hitters but took time to develop, and he had time to sit and look. Our front 7 and especially front 4 (except for Alem) is not getting pressure!!!!!
Blow this thread up if you wish. I will go to bed bleeding purple and Gold, and will wake up Sunday and still love my Tigers. I will support this staff. I do hope they make some serious adjustments, soon.

I was kinda thinking our negative, fairweather fanbase needs to go.

Lee did what he could, can't blame that kid, when you come out in the second half drive straight down the field and score, that's supposesd to fire your D up, not the other way around, they folded last night, I don't know what the hell the coordinators were calling, Tebow had time in the pocket to have a pinic with his relatives.

They put up 31 points on us in a little over a quarter of play.

I'm not being a negatiger, I think we still have a good ball club. I just think our d coordinators need to step up or step out.
that's supposesd to fire your D up

But Lee has to quit throwing his pick 6's.
