Your defense of the movie, while sound, is also the problem with it.
Sure, periods and crushes on boy bands are normal for pre/early teens girls. The problem is that isn’t the audience for Pixar as a whole. In fact, that is the one age bracket that is least likely to watch this movie. I know I went through a stage starting around 12 where I thought I was “too cool” to watch Disney or animated movies in general.
The messaging is messy and confusing.
As others have described as well, all things being equal it’s just a boring, unfunny movie and not anywhere close to Pixar’s standards.
