I would guess they would be "recently retired" folks from other militaries around the world. I've noticed a fair amount of that within their ranks in the past. Are they short on Ukrainian pilots?

In Spring of 2022 I asked a retired A-10 squadron commander about their use. He said that likely find experienced mercenary pilots from the USAF shouldn't be a problem. The issue with retired pilots is slowing of reflexes with the aging process. These would still be better trained pilots thn Russia has to offer as of now.

I'm betting Russian pilots are the least of their worries. Agree though, I figured they would find some this way. Seen plenty of videos of Americans, Brits, etc running around with rifles
