There’s a difference in giving in to nuclear blackmail with a country like say, Iran or North Korea, who have extremely limited number of bombs and probably even less delivery systems and giving in to the largest nuclear power by number of bombs in the world with the means to deliver them. Also what are the stakes? Is Ukraine worth the end of civilization as we know it? Is Iran potentially threatening the world’s oil supply worth it? Is Taiwan worth it?

Maybe they all are worth it and maybe none of them are. But it’s not as simple as stomping our feet and screaming we won’t be bullied by the likes of Putin.

I would posit that there is no difference at all. When you demonstrate that you will give in to nuclear blackmail to a major power, all the minor powers will take notice and follow suit.
