Mazda has quietly surpassed both Subaru and Honda in terms of reliability. They’ve avoided CVT transmissions and still have a healthy crop of naturally aspirated engines.
I’ve owned two Mazdas, and while I didn’t love either one, neither ever gave me mechanical issues. The only drawback is that parts used to be more expensive than other Japanese marques, but I don’t know if that’s still the case.
