If it ends up like Wheel of Time then I'm going to be disappointed. WoT is a shite show.
Let's keep one point in perspective here:
Wheel of Time was 6 or so episodes that covered what, 2 books, and there's a big series of books.
The Rings of Power, for actual written material, is a chapter in the Silmarillion, a couple obscure references in LOTR, etc. And they've decided to go at least 5 seasons.
Wheel of Time had to pare out a lot of information, Rings of Power gets to fill in stuff. There are no written meetings of, say, the King of Numenor reminiscing with "Great Uncle Elrond" about family history, while I expect that to be a scene in this show at some point.
We "know" Moria was a great Dwarven realm, they were friendly with Eregion and eventually helped save some of its' peoples. We know a Balrog eventually takes it down. That's IT.
Production values and such- we know LOTR was a success. We know The Hobbit made people want to puke (literally) with the different camera speed and CGI, we know WoT was a complete whiff. They've still got 6 months to tweak the visuals a bit and overlay the score, and try to make sure they present it in a way that will appeal.
