We've got a tankless water heater that requires frequent descaling and repairs because of very hard water.
============
ETA: a local plumber insists that a high-quality sediment filter with a 4-1/2" x 10" element - installed at the inlet of a tankless water heater - works better than a water softener to prevent very hard water from plugging up the unit.
Has anyone tried this?
