Hunting turkey on public land , today, there is an 80% chance that another guy will come from another direction

99% of statistics are made up.

If you plan to hunt next to the truck, or drive around in the truck and call and hunt this is absolutely true. But there's plenty of public land out there that's possible to not routinely run into people. I hunt almost exclusively public land about 25 hunts a year and I have only 1-2 issues a year at most. Last year I walked in on 2 people, the first guy the bird was way off and he was sitting on a decoy and not calling, so I just so happened to walk up on him. The 2nd one the guys again were not calling and the bird was on the roost. Both times I backed off. I don't remember anyone screwing up a hunt on me last year.

The key though is to get out of the truck and get away from the roads on public land.

Do you have better luck in the fields or dense woods?
