Looking for any feedback or information one can provide on high velocity HVAC systems:

- Installers around Baton Rouge?
- Cost differences vs traditional HVAC locally?
- How it handles on 90°+ days?
- If you have an HV system, would you do it again? Changes you’d make? Suggestions?
- Brands to consider or avoid?
- Smart thermostat capable?

Looking into this option as an alternative in an extensive remodel/restoration of an historic home without much room to run the ductwork necessary to reach the various rooms and auxiliary spaces - most of which would need to be (expensive) fabricated, rigid ducts.

One estimate for the traditional HVAC install calls for two multi-zoned 5 ton units - each to service ~2000 sf (one up and one down) - to the tune of about $50k.

I know very little about them, but I have read a little bit on them on the AOP HVAC-Talk forum, LINK. I seem to recall one of the HVAC techs that answers homeowner questions on that site has a good bit of experience installing them and likes them for their application.

You might consider joining that forum and pose your question and see what type of feed back and tips you get - all the responses you’ll get will be from highly experienced HVAC techs. By rule when you sign up, the site provides no homeowner DYI information, which doesn’t apply to you, nor is pricing information allowed per site rules.

I understand it may be a necessity for the application, but I'd inquire on how loud that will be inside. Seems like an awful lot of wind noise

They are used pretty frequently up here in the northeast for the historical homes. That's about all I know honestly. A primarily southern message board is likely going to be little help.

I appreciate the responses and link to the message board.

I've since learned there are a few installers out of Nola - seemingly for the historic homes - but unfortunately none of them work outside of the metro area or have the capacity to.

I'm hoping that one of the major HV companies can work with a local HVAC guy to get things set up. It appears the major differences are in the planning of how you size the system and how many and where to place the outputs.

I'd think that someone with much more experience and knowledge in this area could follow the schematics and do the labor of getting it installed. Will see how it goes.
