I like mules.
There are a couple of old timers around here who have mules. When they come up on a barbed wire fence, they get off the mule and put a blanket over the fence and the mule jumps over the fence. They then get back on the mule. It is pretty cool to watch.
I've seen a Jenny get after some coyotes. The Jenny was the clear winner.

We used to have a few of them when I was a kid. They seemed to be very significantly less trouble than horses were. I dont remember us doing anything for them besides feeding them and getting their feet did occasionally.

Called the coon jump. They do this at mule shows/competitions. Was always my favorite division to watch. they use a regular jump though and have a chalk box drawn that they have to stay in and jump from a standstill.
