Does anyone on here hunt waterfowl at Dewey Wills or Spring Bayou?
I'd like to learn about the areas. I'm willing to pay someone to show me.
Thks, [lease call or text Gunner 337-781-9581

Both are good. This time of year it's best to try and find the button wood holes or flooded bottoms but with it being so dry those are few and far between right now. The main lakes and channels produce ducks but expect competition from other boat blinds setting up nearby.

Was going to try DW this year because LDWF had a big post on La Sportsman that said the Catahoula NWR was closed and that is where we used to walk in hunt (on the Bushley Bayou Unit side north of hwy 84). But I called the Catahoula NWR office and the LDWF office and they both told me that they meant the duck impoundment area south of 84 that is part of the refuge, which has never allowed duck hunting just squirrel I think, and not the Bushley Bayou Unit (at least that is what I was told) but you need the Bushley Bayou refuge permit for it and duck hunting is only on certain days.
I ended up hunting the lake and a buddy's blind on the tensas and never made it out to the NWR or DW. From what all my buddies that have hunted DW have told me is that they give a lot of tickets and the green tree impoundment gets super crowded but if you have a boat you can find some good spots. They have a FB group and people on it are friendly and it looks like they have been killing a lot of deer out there on the WMA. You gotta get their early though to hunt the green tree flooded timber holes and there are only like a dozen or so.
They built a northern waterfowl impoundment north of the diversion canal but they didn't flood it this year. I guess they do it every other year now. But I've seen videos of people killing ducks out there. If the Lake is good, DW should be decent. Some buddies also told me that Beouf WMA would be a better bet, but you need a boat for there I think.

That is what the people on the DW fb group were saying, although the Greentree had water they said but alot of the holes that look good from google maps have that invasive grass shite in it. I was told it was shaping up for a good season on the lake and they drained the water during the first split so the water is low out there too.

Pull up the DW maps. Set up the app for LDWF so you can do the self check in and check out when you go out there. I don't think you can go in until 4 a.m. and I think that that means at the sign on the diversion canal road entrance on 28. Look at the google maps and map of the WMA and you go down diversion canal rd and turn right on Hunt rd. over the bridge of the canal and you keep driving and look at the maps and it'll basically take you straight to the green tree area. On google maps you can see the big cut outs in the trees in a big circular tree area not far from a big bayou that connects and loops around to the Saline lake (I think is the name). Just make sure you toe the mark and walk the line because I have heard a lot about tickets. Make sure if you park all your tires are on gravel.
Looks like there is a parking area near the green tree so you can walk in and try to stake an open place. However, I bet it's crowded. Just make sure you have all you license and stamps and WMA licenses in order and on you.
Just be sure to drive your truck on designated vehicle roads. Some of the paths are for ATVs. I have no idea about the water but I think sometimes some of the roads flood but you can call their office and ask. But I don't think Hunt rd. floods often especially with this weather.
