It’s a fair comparison to make the point that sports that operate with no salary cap don’t necessarily get dominated by those with the largest payrolls. In MLB, there’s a huge sample size of 162 games where regression to the mean is expected. But in college football, a smaller sample size of games means improbable events can happen. I think we’ll find that you can’t just buy championships (though having deep pockets helps). You also need good coaches and players interested in developing their skills rather than simply being paid for their skills.
