That doesn’t allow the young man to move up the board. That costs the player money.

Not sure how this is a good decision. His skills are not declining at 25. The player at that point just hasn’t developed his skills enough or doesn’t have them.

He must be a pretty much developed product to make it through camp

Not really. For long term purposes, it’s better to start earning money NOW. And if he’s good enough, his second contract will more than make up for anything he might have lost by coming out early.

And, if he is injured and his career cut short, at least he’s got real money in the bank.
