Arnsparger (IMO) wasn't emotionally invested in meaningless bowl games. That's the point.

He was about winning championships. In his world, a bowl game was like playing a game after being eliminated from the (NFL) playoffs. Why?

Just my humble opinion, but I think he introduced a paradigm change of what meant "success." Before him, success was beating rivals (mainly OM and Tulane) and getting a good bowl bid. From then on, it was about winning championships.

LSU-State 1986 - unfortunately no volume.

This was our fist SEC Title since 1970 (a long 16 years). Scroll to the end and notice the celebration. That's what Arnsparger was all about.

FTR, the OP wasn't criticism of Bill. Just an observation.
