Comparing deaths between locations is tough to do. How does one place classify a death? When you count anything with a positive PCR test without a certain time frame of a death (up to 60 days in some locations), you can’t trust those numbers.
Also, I do believe that at one point, perhaps it’s still the case, the two things the WHO required to count a CoviD death was a positive PCR test AND bilateral pneumonia. That’s part of the reason places like Singapore only had like 12 deaths at one point.
How broad is that here in the USA? At the time when I read about the WHO thing, I think the USA would have had half the deaths that we counted if we used the PCR and pneumonia criteria.
South Korea probably also “benefited” from being near China and having had a MERS outbreak in recent years to help with some form of prior immunity.
